    Chat tonight - Gratitude

    By Zura | May 13, 2008

I mailed out the Clowning Around newsletter today with the topic of gratitude. Tonight (Tuesday) at 8 PM Eastern time I will be hosting a chat and while I have no formal agenda, I hope we can share a little about gratitude.

You may wonder why I chose the collage to the right for this particular post. It represents something I am very grateful for. My son will be riding in a rodeo right here where I live next week! He lives about 400 miles from me, so I don’t get to see him often enough and it’s a special treat when I get to see him ride.

This will also give my friends and relatives here the opportunity to see him ride. He usually does really well when he knows there’s family support in the audience.

I have about a jillion things I’m grateful for, but this is definitely at the top of my list right now.

To attend the chat tonight go to http://creativeclown.com/chat

If you don’t yet subscribe to my newsletter, fill out the form to the left of this post.

    Playing with my site

    By Zura | May 12, 2008

I apologize if anything isn’t working right.  If you subscribe to my blog posts and aren’t getting them, I’m working on it!  As I add sections, I want there to be a central page everyone goes to first.  I added that last night, but I think it may have made some of the links to my blog not work.

Because I have been/am teaching myself how to create pages and do web design sometimes things to work smoothly the first time around.  Besides just the pages themselves, and how they look, it’s necessary to think about all the hidden things that are on web pages.  These things are necessary for various reasons.  For example,  when you come to my main page now, instead of your browser saying Creative Clown it just has a smiley face.  Just one of the many things I need to fix.

I am also creating some videos that I’m very excited about!  They are tutorials on Photoshop.  They are very basic, fun, and geared toward mixed media artists.   I watch a lot of Photoshop tutorials and while I have learned from them they seem to be so technical, or the teacher assumes I know more than I do.  The way I’m doing these is presenting it through my own experience and teaching only what is necessary.  Photoshop has so much to it, and is so complex that it can be overwhelming.  But there are things you can learn that enables you to start using it. Then if you want to learn more as you go along you can.  So, I’m attempting to help people learn enough to get going!

    Is this your mother?

    By Zura | May 11, 2008

    Do you know this woman?

I can’t seem to find anyone that recognizes her. I’m quite sure she isn’t my mother. My kids say she bears no resemblance to me, whatsoever.

So, whose mother is this? Were any of you raised in this spotless kitchen eating perfectly prepared, beautiful food? Was it your mother that prepared gourmet meals in her expensive dress (probably wearing high heels)?

I am suspect of her. Anyone that happy, and clean, after preparing all that food just isn’t trustworthy!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!

    Podcast - Creative Journaling Jems

    By Zura | May 9, 2008

Today’s podcast is a recording of a teleclass I presented a couple of years ago when I worked for Artella. It’s about an hour long and it’s an overview of art journaling including types of journaling, types of journals and some techniques that can be used.

    I hope you enjoy it.

In the class, I mention that I will share my notes. If you’d like a copy of these notes, you can download them as a Word file here.

    New Art TV

    By Zura | May 7, 2008

New Art TV is a website I just discovered.  It is a site full of news about the art world, and it’s all videos.  Think YouTube for art.

There are videos on museums exhibitions and events, festivals from around the world, as well as visits with artists in their studios.

Some of the videos are in series, much like a tv show. The quality of the videos is good and the site is well organized and easy to navigate.

The picture on the right is a Van Gogh painting called The Girl in Orange.  It is from a video of a Van Gogh exhibit at the European Fine Arts Fair.

    Fun Challenge

    By Zura | May 7, 2008

What are you doing today that is fun?  I don’t mean things like getting my desk cleaned off, or finishing up the laundry.  I mean really fun!

Do you even remember what fun is or know what’s fun to you?

As we grow in years we get farther and farther away from the part of us that seeks and recognizes fun.  When we get too far away, we get out of balance.  That imbalance causes things to start going wrong in our mind and body.  Depression, anxiety, physical illness, fatigue, insomnia and weight gain are just a few of the problems that can follow.

I challenge you to make a list of 20 fun activities that you enjoy.  If this is easy for you, congratulations!  That means you have stayed in touch with the child inside that helps keep you alive and healthy.

However, if it is difficult, just know that you don’t have to do the whole list at once.  Make the list and keep it with you.  Hopefully just initiating it will keep it in the back of you mind and as you go through your week, you’ll be in tune and start remembering things you enjoy.

For inspiration, here are a few of mine:

    listening to music - loud!
    getting to know new people
going to garage sales and finding totally useless crap to buy
driving fast with the windows down
    telling stories

I  would love to see some of the things on your lists.  Leave a comment and tell me some of the fun things you enjoy!

    Network with Divas

    By Zura | May 4, 2008

I just discovered Divepreneur and it is such a fantastic resource for any woman doing business online.  It’s a little community where feminine nurturing is  all over the place.

Divapreneur is a friendly, positive community which sole purpose is to network, promote and advertise freely with elite women in business. The network is composed of women entrepreneurs or women looking to start a business.

The concept is very simple - let’s get to know each other and share what we have to make us all successful.  And these ladies are very willing to help each other out with their encouragement, talents and skills.  I’ve never seen anything like it.

I’ve been there about a week and I have so many new friends, and have gotten so much help already in spreading the word about my business as well as site design, marketing and technical information.

The site is graphically beautiful and all the women are professional, smart, savvy women.  Divapreneur is a by invitation only and anyone wishing to join must know a member or contact us to join. Click here to learn more about the membership.
