GPP Street Team – Crusade 37

February 5, 2010 - 11:19 pm 26 Comments

Remember last month when I did my first GPP Street team challenge and tried to cut snowflakes?  That was a disaster.  This month the crusade is to create a journal page (actually I think it said spread, but I misread it and only did a page) with X’s and O’s.  Here is my page.  I’m not thrilled with it, but I rarely ever am when I know people are going to be looking at it.  But I’m really pushing myself this year to share my art whether I think it’s “good enough” or not, so here it is:

Those darn inner critics! Your page is wonderful! I love the colors you used.

Zura – thanks for coming to play! Bravo for trying the challenge. Love clicking on the page for a larger view – lots of layers to see under there. Looks interesting, like cool cave drawings because of the colors and scratchings. Welcome to the team – we always love meeting new friends!

  3. Rosemary Griffin Says:

I love the delicate nature of the page.

  4. Jane Says:

    Zura,
Congrats for having the courage to show us your work. I do like the layers of subtle color and texture. The heart shapes are great, too.
Glad you could join the fun.

  5. Zura Says:

Jane, thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. And I truly appreciate your encouragement.

  6. Zura Says:

Rosemary, thank you so much for coming to see my page and leaving a comment. I am working a lot lately with trying to get a delicate look with a lot of texture. Thank you so much for saying you saw the delicateness of it!

  7. Zura Says:

Michelle, I am so honored that you came to see my X O page and left a comment. For you to take the time to do that is truly encouraging. Makes me want to do better next time!!

    Sincere appreciation,
    Zura

Bill, let’s get a group and ban the critics!! Okay? You are so nice to keep coming here and encouraging me. I so appreciate seeing your comments.

  9. Cath S Says:

I think your page turned out really well. I just commented elsewhere, and the same things applies here, that I love the combination of white paint or gesso, hidden writing and scratchy lines. I never manage to do it myself, but love the look.
You know the inner critic thing; I bet you would never go to a stranger’s website and criticise their work. Why are we kinder to strangers than we are to ourselves? Funny aye!

  10. Goudenregen Says:

I like your page a lot, a bit mysterious, like an old wall. You wonder what is under the layers.

  11. Aimeslee Says:

Nice page and good job defying those critics. xoxo

    Hello Zura,

I had the seem feeling about my page, but I think the experiment is sometimes more important than the result.
Although… I like your page ! : I like the combination of the brown and the white, the scrabbling and the placement of the X and O on the right.
    greetings from belgium
    Inge

Cath, thank you so much for stopping by and commenting on my page. I am currently obsessed with the gesso over darker colors in a messy, textured way. You are so right about the critic stuff. Both my sons are very creative and I would never say anything discouraging to them! I try to think of that, but sometimes the old naggy voice just breaks through.

  17. Zura Says:

I think that’s what I like about this look, too, although I couldn’t have worded it as well as you have. I appreciate you stopping by and commenting.

  18. Zura Says:

Thank you so very much!! This GPP crusade is helping me work past the negative stuff for sure! Especially when nice people like you leave me encouraging words.

  19. Zura Says:

Thanks so much for the encouragement! It is about having fun, isn’t it? Hope I can remember that more often.

  20. Zura Says:

Jackie, thank you for coming by and taking the time to comment. It really means a lot.

  21. Zura Says:

“Palpable”..what a great word for this! Thank you so much, Dawn!

  22. Zura Says:

You are right, Inge, that the process is what’s important. I hope that I will get more comfortable as I do more GPP Challenges, with just sharing my process and not worrying about criticism. Thank you sincerely from coming here (all the way from Belgium) to leave a comment for me. :)

  23. Janet Says:

Get rid of that inner critic! (I have the same problem!) Your page is great.

I always show all my art, good and bad….and many times everyone likes the thing I didn’t like. So don’t be afraid to share your art. It’s wonderful.

  24. Zura Says:

I like your attitude to show all your art. That really struck me when I read it, like it was a message for me today. Thank you so much for coming here and taking the time to comment.

  25. Marilyn Gallas Says:

I love your work. It has that sort of shabby chic look which is perfect for XXX’s and OOO’s. I share your trepidation but I think almost everyone feels that way. Keep on playing.

  26. Susan Sager Brown Says:

Wow, this page is one of my very favs from this crusade!! I love the texture and the handwriting and the scratchy gesso. My first thought when I saw the page was that the X and O are on lollipop sticks!! X and O lollipops!! what more could a girl want?? xoSusan
