Captcha dyslexia
By Zura | April 8, 2008
You know those boxes on websites where you have to type in the letters or numbers you see in the image? They are technically known as captchas. And they are the nightmare of my life. I spend all day on the computer, going places, leaving comments on blogs, signing up for things, etc. And I can never get these letters right the first time. I never do it in less than three tries!
Why? What is wrong with me? Is it really just me? I look at it. I say it outloud. Then I type it. It looks correct and I hit enter. I get an error message. Yesterday I was trying to join some site or other and I actually never was successful. It is so frustrating! Why don’t have an escape clause? Like a link to contact someone if you’re too learning disabled to do this?
So, I want to try a little test. I think the image above says vziqdrw. Is that what you see?

Liz, thank you for commenting. I’m sorry you have problems, too, but gotta admit that I’m relieved to know I’m not the only one.

I hate them too, but use them in my comment area. Otherwise SPAM invades… and I hate SPAM even more.

Hi Chewy, thanks for dropping by! My blog is self hosted on wordpress and amazingly spam is not an issue. I love wordpress! But I understand why you have to do something to control it. I just wish the captcha coders would come up with something more readable. A few I’ve seen have a simple math problem and you enter the answer. That is much better, in my opinion
